Pros

Opportunities for learning lots of new skills, learning potential here is high Interesting projects, the work done at this company seems important and impactful. The company works closely with government entities. Upper management (especially CTO) are truly passionate about the company and the work. Lean management team. People, including the CTO and higher management are easily accessible. Good collaboration within teams Security Clearance if eligible 401k matching and health insurance Nice location

Cons

Extremely long hours. Devs have worked an average of 12 hours/day for weeks in a row. Working weekends is necessary every few weeks. Working until 3, 4, or 5am has happened occasionally. Sometimes we work on federal holidays. There is no concern for employee’s work life balance. Devs are often not told until last minute (the day or two before) that weekend overtime is expected. When working during evenings, devs are expected to continue working until 10 or 11pm. We often don’t know about needing to work evening overtime until the week or so before, so it is extremely difficult to schedule any life non-work activities, whether it be during the evenings or weekends. Working excessive overtime hours for days and weeks on end is expected, not going “above and beyond”. No overtime pay for salaried employees. Higher management has said things like, “We would like you to work hard and then take a few days to recharge after a sprint,” but this has not been true. During crunch time there is constant work. Low pay. This company has been around for ten years but still is a “startup”, used to justify the startup culture of long hours. We get startup hours, but we do not get any equity. The base pay is much less than average compared to companies based in the same area. No solid news on continuing remote work after the 2020/2021 world incident, but it sounds like they eventually want to have everyone back in the office full time.
