Pros

The benefits to fulltime employees are second to none for a typical institute. Those faculty and staff that have had recent career experience outside of the institute are a valuable asset to the teaching and technical ability of the institute. It would seem though that the Institute is moving away from the Technical Institute model and is moving towards a Research University model which threatens the well-versed faculty and staff on RIT's campus and wishes to replace them with heavy theories and antiquated knowledge of PhDs in fields that don't yet have them! Other than that, compensation and benefits are amazing.

Cons

There are times when the management does not understand or does not wish to understand the technical matters at hand and problems involved with them. Other times orders come from above that are not fully understood by those giving them, and no technical assistance is sought. I have not been impressed with the several meetings I have been asked to attend as a subject matter expert only to be told that my opinion is valid but management would like to go another way. Faculty and staff are also knowledgable, but have not ben rotated into the field as they are supposed to be.
