Great career path, but the employer… - Account Executive RJ Young Co. Employee Review

Pros

This is a great industry if you’re new to sales and want to learn the ropes. Relationships are king. Time and effort pay dividends. The fact that RJY has in-house leasing is a huge advantage over other companies.

Cons

My comp plan changed like 4 times in my two years. Then, within the first six months of Covid, it changed two more times. Even if comp plan doesn’t change, it’s written so that it needs to be renewed periodically, or else the employee can slip into a commission-only role. Put simply: the company will drop you and replace you at the drop of a hat. There are also frequent changes to your expectations, which may apply retroactively. I never had experience with these, but I witnessed other people lose their jobs because of it. It seems like a flimsy way of getting around the fact that a manger didn’t like them. You may have like I did, a manager who hogs the glory for himself, taking credit for your sales like you did more then show up for the closing on occasion. Even if you get good, this is still an club with a pretty toxic culture, rife with one up manship, imposter syndrome, and general ego. Again, a great place to start your career in sales. But I would advise you against staying for long.
