Pros

There are none I can think of.

Cons

They have a culture of fear and blame. No one of worth remains for very long. They have a program where they create fake positive reviews on sites like this to counter the real negative reviews.

We’re so sorry to hear that your time with RLI was not what you expected. We want all our employees to have a positive, enjoyable and rewarding RLI career. And when that doesn’t happen, we want to learn from it so we can get better. We would love to talk more with you to understand your situation and experience. If you can spare some time to talk with us, please reach out to our HR department at 309-692-1000. While we do encourage our employees to submit authentic and honest Glassdoor reviews, we do not create fake reviews. Nor do we have any programs or efforts in place to encourage employees to be anything but completely honest in their reviews. Employee feedback is important and we use it regularly to enhance our work environment and add benefits in direct response to what employees tell us they want. We hope to speak to you soon.

Pros

RLI has a strong employee-ownership culture and a work environment where people are trusted to take ownership of what they do. The company is relatively flat, which gives employees visibility, access to leadership, and a better understanding of how their work affects the broader organization. Senior management is approachable in a way I have not experienced at other companies, and there is a real effort to listen to employee feedback through direct conversations, exit interviews, and companywide surveys. I also appreciate working with people who care about doing their jobs well and understand that their performance and conduct affect the company as a whole. For employees who are self-starters, think strategically, and take pride in their work, RLI can be a very positive place to build a career.

Cons

Because RLI is relatively flat and gives people a lot of ownership, it may not be the best fit for someone who wants a highly structured environment, frequent direction, or a clearly mapped career path at every step. Advancement and development often require self-advocacy, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to look for opportunities rather than waiting for them to be handed to you. That is not necessarily a negative, but it can be an adjustment depending on what type of environment someone is used to.
