Pros

The focus of investing in employees has really increased and has positively impacted me personally. Small workout room onsite with locker rooms and shower. Beautiful building and campus. ESOP, 401k, Insurance, etc benefits are great. This is the size of company where your voice can be heard and you can truly make a difference. You see the results of you and your teams work first hand which is truly satisfying. Plenty of PTO.

Cons

Flex-time and WFH are not fully adopted by all management. Lots of technical debt in IT. Communication is occasionally very poor for projects within IT. Cross-department communication can also be poor. Expected to work weekend/evening with no compensation day during the week.

Pros

RLI has a strong employee-ownership culture and a work environment where people are trusted to take ownership of what they do. The company is relatively flat, which gives employees visibility, access to leadership, and a better understanding of how their work affects the broader organization. Senior management is approachable in a way I have not experienced at other companies, and there is a real effort to listen to employee feedback through direct conversations, exit interviews, and companywide surveys. I also appreciate working with people who care about doing their jobs well and understand that their performance and conduct affect the company as a whole. For employees who are self-starters, think strategically, and take pride in their work, RLI can be a very positive place to build a career.

Cons

Because RLI is relatively flat and gives people a lot of ownership, it may not be the best fit for someone who wants a highly structured environment, frequent direction, or a clearly mapped career path at every step. Advancement and development often require self-advocacy, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to look for opportunities rather than waiting for them to be handed to you. That is not necessarily a negative, but it can be an adjustment depending on what type of environment someone is used to.
