Pros
Few pros: Financial and insurance benefits are very good. If you're in a smaller, branch office, you have more freedom. Home office and larger regional offices tend to be very stifling.
Cons
Many cons: Too many hires from within, lack of managerial talent, lack of entrepreneurial spirit. RLI experiences difficulty hiring both experienced and talented staff from outside the company. Consequently in-house staffers tend to be promoted creating inertia and a somewhat inward looking, closeted culture unreceptive to external ideas. Less experienced staffers frequently held rank above more experienced staffers. Productive, external business events tended to be poorly organized with little continuity year to year while expensive/extravagant internal, less productive events such as department trips to tropical locales continued yearly with much fanfare. Management tends to be self indulgent and not supportive of local business development activities. Communication was generally poor between operational units and within operational units.
