Pros

Insurance professionals weary of the pressure to create profits or generate premium that make you uneasy? This is a company that is dead serious about doing the right things the right way. Young professionals looking for opportunity for growth and development? You can find it here and learn from the best. If you are serious about maintaining your integrity and moving forward with a steady resolve to succeed and achieve with profitability that sustains, give us a look. This is not a machine that uses and discards personnel like we see with so many other large insurers. The whole is a sum of the parts. Research the history and performance for yourself.

Cons

It's a pay for performance culture coupled with profit sharing so we're all part owners. Not for you if you're looking for an easy ride. The team approach or collaboration is priority so if you're in it just for yourself, not for you as well.

Pros

RLI has a strong employee-ownership culture and a work environment where people are trusted to take ownership of what they do. The company is relatively flat, which gives employees visibility, access to leadership, and a better understanding of how their work affects the broader organization. Senior management is approachable in a way I have not experienced at other companies, and there is a real effort to listen to employee feedback through direct conversations, exit interviews, and companywide surveys. I also appreciate working with people who care about doing their jobs well and understand that their performance and conduct affect the company as a whole. For employees who are self-starters, think strategically, and take pride in their work, RLI can be a very positive place to build a career.

Cons

Because RLI is relatively flat and gives people a lot of ownership, it may not be the best fit for someone who wants a highly structured environment, frequent direction, or a clearly mapped career path at every step. Advancement and development often require self-advocacy, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to look for opportunities rather than waiting for them to be handed to you. That is not necessarily a negative, but it can be an adjustment depending on what type of environment someone is used to.
