Pros

Hard work & passion is recognized all the way to the top. The culture is the absolute best. There's Work/Life flexibility, such as ability to work remotely while still having co-worker comradery & not feeling left alone on an island. CEO & top brass know their people not just their names. It is a great place to work while the pay & benefits are best in industry. Bonuses are clearly outlined & 100% objective based. Company contributes automatically to your 401(k) even if you don't & the ESOP is amazing. This is just on an average year. When the company has an outstanding year, all of the employee/owners share in the wealth. Don't need to feel that you need to manage people to get promoted. They reward talent for talent. They value Underwriters & all positions that support Underwriting. They view us as talented resources not just as replaceable busy workers. The company listens to those on the front lines & gives support when needed. Managment is willing to pivot & not continue to repeat the same mistakes. Not to sound like a broken record, but the retirement package is amazing!!!! This is the place you come to & retire at.

Cons

Not a place you can coast. They don't over work you, but if you just want to put in bare minimum effort you won't enjoy the spoils... as much. Flat organization, so not a lot of multiple levels of AVPs/VPs, but doesn't mean you can't grow in your career, responsibilities, & compensation. You won't get a tone of different titles during your career, but you'll still get the pay & benefits.

Pros

RLI has a strong employee-ownership culture and a work environment where people are trusted to take ownership of what they do. The company is relatively flat, which gives employees visibility, access to leadership, and a better understanding of how their work affects the broader organization. Senior management is approachable in a way I have not experienced at other companies, and there is a real effort to listen to employee feedback through direct conversations, exit interviews, and companywide surveys. I also appreciate working with people who care about doing their jobs well and understand that their performance and conduct affect the company as a whole. For employees who are self-starters, think strategically, and take pride in their work, RLI can be a very positive place to build a career.

Cons

Because RLI is relatively flat and gives people a lot of ownership, it may not be the best fit for someone who wants a highly structured environment, frequent direction, or a clearly mapped career path at every step. Advancement and development often require self-advocacy, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to look for opportunities rather than waiting for them to be handed to you. That is not necessarily a negative, but it can be an adjustment depending on what type of environment someone is used to.
