Pros

RLI rewards excellence. Employees are compensated for performance and not expected to fit into a cookie cutter mold. The company develops positions around an employee's strengths. Stable and consistent leadership keeps things on track. Great work life balance with generous hybrid work options.

Cons

Wish I> had found the company earlier in my career!

Pros

RLI has a strong employee-ownership culture and a work environment where people are trusted to take ownership of what they do. The company is relatively flat, which gives employees visibility, access to leadership, and a better understanding of how their work affects the broader organization. Senior management is approachable in a way I have not experienced at other companies, and there is a real effort to listen to employee feedback through direct conversations, exit interviews, and companywide surveys. I also appreciate working with people who care about doing their jobs well and understand that their performance and conduct affect the company as a whole. For employees who are self-starters, think strategically, and take pride in their work, RLI can be a very positive place to build a career.

Cons

Because RLI is relatively flat and gives people a lot of ownership, it may not be the best fit for someone who wants a highly structured environment, frequent direction, or a clearly mapped career path at every step. Advancement and development often require self-advocacy, patience, resourcefulness, and a willingness to look for opportunities rather than waiting for them to be handed to you. That is not necessarily a negative, but it can be an adjustment depending on what type of environment someone is used to.
