generally good, a little uneven; kind of a blend of academics, government and business. - Anonymous employee RTI International Employee Review

Pros

Very strong loyalty to staff in most departments. Good gender ration, most departments. Very tolerant of gays, lesbians, immigrants and other minorities. Not as many blacks as in the general public. Reasonable salaries. Management with good values & intentions, who try to be fair, rational, principled, etc, and generally succeed. Non-profit in character, but not about philanthropy or losing money.

Cons

Like everywhere, some groups are better than others, and the work experience depends a lot on the immediate neighborhood. Sometimes there is too much workload on the lower level staff, and too much management burden on routine operations, and apparently a lot of wasted time among management. Even so, better than many other places.

Pros

Colleagues were usually respectful, hardworking, and competent. Pre-Covid, the RTP campus was a vibrant and collaborative working environment. Some of the (mostly Federal) contracts provided for interesting research and work.

Cons

Perhaps put too many eggs in USAID contract and Federal social sciences baskets. Org's strength used to be hard sciences. RTI's strength was its organizational culture which was severely undermined by the decision to allow almost anyone to work remotely Upper management bends too much to a vocal and political few, helping to sour an excellent working environment. Many faithful and valuable employees now distrust senior management.
