Pros
* Leadership maintains active interest in employees' well-being, both physical and professional—including semi-weekly fitness walks, reimbursement for gym memberships (if you don't want to use the very conveniently located gym, right in our office building), and 40 hours of personal development time a year. * Great job separating developers from client politicking (thanks, PMs!) * No micromanagement. You're largely your own manager and its your job to communicate what you need to your peers. * Excellent team communication and collaboration. There's always someone ready to mentor you or peer-review your code. * Our resident cat herders (people services) are absolutely wonderful. They keep the pantry well-stocked, organize company events, and are just genuinely great people. (When I took an unexpected day off after a late-night hospital trip with my girlfriend, they immediately got in touch, offering sympathies and to have lunch sent to our apartment. I was touched!) * A welcoming and diverse environment, across the board—in terms of gender, sexuality, and professional background. Many engineers have self-taught or non-computer-science backgrounds. * Willingness to adopt cutting-edge technology and new solutions, from microservices and Kubernetes to support platforms like Zendesk. * A dedicated UI/UX design team, who do awesome work * Beautiful office with plenty of amenities. Open office layout, but a reasonable one. * Ongoing company-wide projects for improving and standardizing workflows, e.g. documentation standards and designers-to-developers hand-offs.
Cons
* Free version of Slack, so messages frequently fall off, which can be a pain for teams that have a lot of Slack communications. But leadership is considering alternatives and open to change.
