Pros
First, I beleive that you can learn something from every experience; including bad ones. What you can learn from Racetrac is how NOT to treat employees. It is better than unemployment. In all fairness, I only worked in one geographic area so I'm not sure if different managment might result ina more positive work place.
Cons
This was the worst employer I have ever worked for. First, it was the only place where I could not get health and dental benefits. The company relies on a system of faxing all paperwork to the corporate office; many times resulting in the paperwork being lost/never received. I personally know of 6 people that were denied benefits because of this system. When you try to follow up with the benefits department, you will go directly to voicemail and good luck receiving a call back (I made calls for almost 3 weeks and wasn't able to speak with anyone/didn't get a call back). Also, there is no dispute resolution policy in place. I witnessed managers threaten employees with termination and reduction in hours if they refused to sign a documentation form. Positive reinforcement is almost non-existent. Work life balance is poor. The only holiday recognized for store employees is Chritmas. Vacations can only be taken on the companies work week (Tues-Mon) and you cannot break up your vacation time. Most managers are adversarial and arguably dishonest. No annual raises. Workplace is EXTREMELY political! Many managers seem to hate their jobs and show little care for their employees. In my time with the company, I saw 5 managers either walk off the job or request demotions because of the work conditions.
