"Long-term employees would rather complain than play an active role in creating positive change" - Human Resources Radius Recycling Employee Review

Pros

This is an astounding statement considering the company rid itself of most of the "long-term" (3-30 years) back in 2011-2012 who worked 50-80 hours weeks. Based on the recency of reviews nothing has (ironically) changed with all the newbies.

Cons

This company has a pervasive cultural issue that starts with the senior management. The executive staff isn't there to serve the people and make them better as in most progressive companies; it's the other way around. So until that (ironically) changes this company will be at the mercy of glass door and social media pundits in general as well as the increasing Schnitzer diaspora.

Radius Recycling Response

First, thank you so much for your heartfelt feedback. As a company that is reliant upon healthy overseas economies we, like many companies, had to make some very difficult decisions to ensure the long term health of our organization. With that said, we are proud of and dedicated to the 3,000+ employees of Schnitzer Steel. We will strive to improve and continue to celebrate those employees. We are excited to celebrate the 125 employees who have been with us for more than 25 years, and particularly the 8 employees who have been with us for more than 40 years. We wish you continued success in your career.

Pros

Hybrid work. Great people, No drama. OT around month end is not crazy. Good work/life balance.

Cons

Recently acquired by Toyota Tsusho so some layoffs and turnover are inevitable. Feeling cautiously optimistic but the transition is still playing out.

Pros

Provides experience working in a rapidly changing and highly controlled environment.

Cons

This is a terrible company to work for. Not only do they constantly change their practices/procedures, they have a lack of transparency for their employees. With several massive waves of lay offs within two years, roles were constantly changing without any proper training. Furthermore, employees who had been with the company for over ten years simply lost access to their computers rather than having a conversation about lay offs. The general lack of consideration for employees is blatant. Not only that, managers (specially west coast directors) are extreme micro managers. They will want to control every decision, from basic reporting files to everyday labor hours, all while being unavailable (refusing to answer phone calls). They will work against you at every opportunity given, truly the worst kind of people. You are not empowered to make decisions, contact your manager, or grow as an employee. They do not value any employee feedback whatsoever. Even as going so far to make drastic changes to documentation storage without consulting those who use it daily. The constant changes are just one minor example of their toxic work environment. They continually penny pinch. The company is not transparent, nor do they care about their employees. Don’t agree with my poor review? Look at the facts: this company has less than 28% of employees recommending it, they have high turnover rates and multiple past employees warned me of these issues during my employment. (If there are multiple people who hate their boss for specific reasons, listen to them. This is not a good person, it is time for retirement). TLDR: Schnitzer Steel dba Radius Recycling is an awful place to work. You are set up to fail. I would not recommend this company to anyone.
