Pros
Salaries are competitive, and Rain Bird generally hires a high caliber of employee. My co-workers are well-educated, motivated, and dedicated to excellence. The brand is very strong and respected in the industry. Quality of products is very high.
Cons
At Rain Bird, the GE-inspired performance management system is out of control. Turnover is out of control, and management is in complete denial of this fact. Managers spend more time running people off and recruiting their replacements than actually doing work that advances the company. There is a clear management obsession with moving people out of the company. This obsession goes way beyond the "bottom 10 percent" advocated by Jack Welch and GE. This company has a very efficient revolving door. The culture here simply does not value Human Capital. The culture is a direct manifestation of Tony LaFetra's view of employees. We are a necessary evil.
