Pros

As the leading irrigation supplier with a worldwide sales network Rain Bird carries a lot of clout, and swings a big stick in the industry. The pay and benefits package are comparable, but only and no more, than others their size. The engineering resources ( software, test facility, prototype capabilites) are excellent. They spend many months vetting new employees, and view thousands of resumes before hiring the best from many different disciplines, industries, and companies. I have never worked with such a high caliber group. Why are they mostly gone within two to three years?

Cons

Management rules by fear, with no people skills or leadership abilities (I rate them a -0- in leadership) including the marketing managers, and especially the Directors. Turnover is extreme, at over 90% in most departments (engineers seem to last the longest, product managers last about two years - I have seen eight go in my four years here). The sales team is great on the few field trips I have been asked to attend, but they openly talk about being on probabtion - how can that be motivating for a 5 year or more employee? There are only a handful of people with over 5 years of seniority, and most who reach ten are gone within one. I heard one Senior Manager say at a meeting " I could have been dead for three months in my office, and no one would have checked, or cared" when he first started. It is sink or swim, with little or no help from your supervisor (they get some sick twisted satisfaction seeing if you have the guts to tough it out). I will be out of here as soon as I find another position, anywhere.

Pros

Lots of freedom and independence, not much micro management, can come up with cool ideas.

Cons

Hard to advance, people stay in their spots for a long time, remote employees excluded from advancement in general. Benefits are bad, health care terrible. 401k match is weak
