As a 20+ year veteran of heritage Raytheon, now Raytheon Technologies, I regret ever joking about being branded with the name. But as I like to say we are born in ignorance, live in knowledge and die in wisdom. The following shares the all-too-late wisdom I have gained. Having had the opportunity to see business operations at multiple levels, it really does come down to the chosen few. The few includes those that are favored, those that are willing to give more than they receive and those that win the “company lottery” where they become the poster employees to highlight how great of a company it is. However nothing is further from the truth about this being a company with same ills of misogyny, racism and narcissistic tendencies towards the many. My personal experiences have been on the spectrum of loved when I sacrificed (family, development and compensation) and undervalued when I demonstrated (growth, work/life balance and difference of thought). But if you know the “right words”, have the “right looks” and know how to navigate which at the senior levels mean delegate then you can be prosperous and achieve roles where you are unqualified, stick to traditional conventions and resemble tired rhetoric. If looking for my recommendation on joining this company, I say it comes down to whether you want to be valued as an employee. Regarding how they value me, they don’t and they won’t.
