Pros
- Can learn leadership and other soft skills from (some) highly intelligent co-workers - Laid-back environment - Modified time (can work extra to avoid using PTO)
Cons
- Several new hires were “Awaiting Assignment” and were not assigned to any programs or projects/didn’t work but got paid. This was me for the first 8 months at the company and it stumped my software growth as someone who is early in their career - Defense = using outdated tech stacks - Often found myself and other engineers doing work unrelated to our titles; some were doing labor work, some were assigned to watch painters paint, some software folks spent hours of their days doing systems engineering work. - RF “SMEs” were not actual experts and would spend hours discussing and re-discussing concepts - engineers in defense get paid less than ones not in defense - not much diversity - In a closed-off location
