Pros

Remote work, decent pay for an agency, unlimited PTO

Cons

I had such high hopes when joining Real Chemistry. On the surface, it seemed like a great agency with upward mobility and a chance to work with great clients. Unfortunately, I found culture to be completely toxic. Read the other reviews and there is a common theme. Instead of addressing feedback directly, it often goes around you personally and to your manager or your managers manager. It's all very high school and just gives you intense levels of anxiety because you don't know who you can trust on the account teams. While there is some semblance of work/life balance, there is an unwritten expectation to be on and available well past your normal working hours. Being spread across multiple projects at such low utilization hours makes in next to impossible to do all the client work as promised. Budgeting and scoping seems to be a real issue across multiple accounts and timesheets are rejected constantly asking if you really spent 30 minutes doing a task or asking you to move time to internal/admin time because there isn't enough budget to go towards the work. There is a reason retention is so bad and so many good people are leaving after a year; the upper management doesn't want to invest the time in actually managing their direct reports and helping them grow. In my less than 1.5 years there, I was managed by three different managers after my first two quit.

Thank you for your feedback. Managing time, budget, and resources is integral to our business, and because balancing client work can be stressful, we have dedicated efforts to help you (and all employees) through this process. We know it’s not always easy and are working to improve. This includes regular review and adjustment of billability and/or usage rates, and partnering with Resourcing for appropriate staffing across accounts. We also underwent a large re-education for diligence in time sheets, with a period of oversight to correct previous habits and help streamline time spent on billing clients. Finally, managers across all levels are trained—including how to manage performance—to ensure feedback is delivered in a timely and direct manner. We also advocate employees to manage-up in asking for reviews, and our People team is here to support all colleagues navigate difficult conversations. --Brian Gibbons, Chief People Officer

Pros

- none. this company is soul suckingly inefficient and they prefer it that way

Cons

- the most dishonest and toxic work environment that I have ever been a part of - the most unqualified management that I have come across (I have worked across numerous agencies - the work is sketchy at best and clients are grossly over billed. Pressuring employees to over bill clients and trying to force inaccurate or incomplete work through the purposely inefficient review processes is common practice at RC - if you do not over bill your clients your managers will begin to micromanage you in a manner that hints at you not doing enough. - Account teams know nothing about media or advertising and make the most uninformed promises to clients and that media activation is constantly on the hook and being blamed for - they hire very little or no men in general. this place is like a toxic middle school atmosphere, it is truly exhausting to be a part of. - managers will routinely insult you in a way you've never been insulted before at work and nothing will be done about it - information is usually gate kept and teams will prevent you from doing your job while management is asking that you contribute more.
