Cons

This is not a review, it is the TRUTH. I started training and being new, I drunk the kool-aid. I thought I would be hired to genuinely help people find a home. They even told me when I started that they were looking for people who wanted to earn a good living and make the experience for the home buyer special. After a few months into the company, you realize that something is not right. When we first started we were told we would make no more than 250-300 dials a day. After about 8 months in, we were at 600-700+ dials a day. They required us to work like dogs just for them to cut the commission structure 3 times in a one year period. So our efforts were increasing and the compensation was decreasing; in other words, do ALOT more for ALOT less. Not to mention that they made all employees sign mutual arbitration agreements, so that if they broke laws, stole wages, or mistreated employees, they wouldn’t be liable, and we would have to come to a mutual agreement through an arbitrator that realtor.com pays for. They’re lawyered up so they know how to find loopholes in processes and laws to keep themselves out of hot water. My direct manager was cool, but they only could do so much, because they had people to answer to. Upper management was so out of touch with reality that they couldn’t tell their behinds from their elbows. They would have these pointless all hands meetings just to spew a lot of business jargon and ask for our concerns. Whenever an employee would voice a concern, they would glance over it with fake positivity without ever addressing the employee’s actual concerns. Like letting ice fall out of the freezer, and kicking it under the fridge so it can melt and be forgotten about. I started to realize that they don’t care for their employees at all. The ONLY thing they care about is increasing shareholder value and profit Year over Year. Really can’t blame them since they’re that big of a business, and their end goal is to make their investors and shareholders more money Year over Year, but stop being fake and acting like you all care about your workers, because Stevie Wonder can see that you don’t. This company will butter you up, just to put you on bread and toast you. They also, set unrealistic goals and metrics for employees, and find ways to “coach you” out the door, EVEN WHEN YOU DO EXACTLY WHAT THEY’VE BEEN TELLING YOU TO DO. I’ve seen plenty of hard working people get marched out because the numbers weren’t in their favor. A lot of the agents that were working with realtor.com have stopped using them for leads, and it’s hurts the employees because the less agents that are available, means that’s more failed dispatches that occur, and those failed dispatches affect rep’s numbers negatively, but upper management doesn’t care one bit. You better keep dialing or else. Whenever you get time, go and google the lawsuits that realtor.com and MOVE INC has on them for “allegedly” defrauding agents and harassing customers with spam calls, and stealing wages from their employees. I read EVERY page of ALL the court documents and all I could do was shake my head because when I worked there, some of the same complaints that were in the court documents, were things that I’ve witnessed while I was working here with my own two eyes. The way they’ve chosen to monetize this company should be criminal, but you don’t find that out until you’re in it. Customers call in daily confused and mad because we can’t help them. They think they’re speaking to the listing agent about a home but they’re not. When a listing agent posts a home, realtor.com then replaces that listing agent’s number with their OWN company’s number, so people that are looking for that listing agent will call and get in touch with an agent that’s paying realtor.com for leads. They would preach transparency to us when talking to customers, and they would take points off of our quality for not being transparent with a customer, but they’re the least transparent company I’ve ever seen. -If you don’t want to get cursed out and hung up on at least 100 times a day, and micromanaged to the 10th degree, I suggest you go find somewhere else to work. -If you don’t want to be taken advantage of and worked like a slave, and making 600-700 calls daily, just to make below market wages, I suggest you find somewhere else to work. -If you don’t want to see at LEAST 2 pay cuts in a year, work far more for far less money, and have NO chances of a raise or bonus EVER, then I suggest you find somewhere else to work. -If you want to feel appreciated as an employee, and feel that your hard work is rewarded, I SUGGEST YOU FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO WORK! I became friends with people in various departments while working there, and just by picking their brain, I must say that I don’t know how this company has been allowed to operate this long while doing shady business, not only with their agents that pay them, but their employees as well. There are some very smart hard working people that are working there and that have worked there who no matter what they did, didn’t stand a chance, because of the constant moving targets. If realtor.com was a child, and I was their parent, I would pull my belt off, because they know better and that’s a shame. They don’t listen to the concerns of the employees while they work there, so maybe they’ll see this and make a change. Also realtor.com, please don’t come up under this review giving an explanation or saying “sorry for your experience at realtor.com….. etc, people are our North Star,…blah blah blah”, You won’t take action to address employee’s concerns while they’re working there, but are quick to come under reviews and try to give clarity on concerns once they leave. Future applicants, If you read this review, and still decide to apply, then you deserve everything that happens to you there. You’ll be treated like a slice of extra mint flavored gum; chewed up and spit out once your flavor is gone. Don’t say I didn’t tell you this….ok?

Pros

Great pay and opportunity for advancement if you can get on the right projects that will succeed. For the most part I have the tech I need to do my job and my coworkers are really smart capable people who I learn from every day. I feel challenged in my work and that makes me feel engaged and interested in the problems I solve daily. Flexible vacation time and great benefits.

Cons

It can be incredibly chaotic at times, bordering on toxic. People are on edge and passing blame around like a hot potato. Hierarchy, power plays, and territorial politics create land mines for the unsuspecting on any given project— depending on your team or organization you’ll need to tread lightly to survive. They only hire in Austin right now, so any open roles seem to take a long time to fill, but the work still piles on.
