Pros

Great work/life balance Decent benefits There are some genuine, caring, talented, inspirational people there. Sometimes you're lucky enough to work with some of them.

Cons

You have to leave the company to get a raise or promotion, and then come back at a higher level. This is so common that they even have a name for it. Despite upper management's insistence to the contrary, pay is lower than it is for comparable positions elsewhere in tech. Upper management's response to the rise in the cost of living: "We're looking into it." Terrible managers with good employees end up getting promoted, but the employees end up leaving. Great lip service given to addressing burnout and well-being, but it's on the employee to just snap out of it and get back to work. Promotions are decided by a group of managers that rank their direct reports top to bottom, and if you ever gave any of them a dirty look at any point in your career, expect to never get promoted.

Pros

Extremely talented and motivated people Great product and ecosystem around Kubernetes

Cons

Bluewashing is real. After 4 years past acquisition it is not Open Decision company anymore. There is no clear communication about the direction where the company goes, some departments were moved to IBM without clear explanation why. Promotion process that was clear before is gone, and now your salary increase or promotion are directly depend on your relationship with the manager and not from your contribution to the team or the product.
