Pros

Benefits are satisfactory. The campus is beautiful. Students and some colleagues are thoughtful and inspiring.

Cons

Where do I begin. Reed College is an actively harmful and toxic place to work. The pay is below market rate, and they like to hire recent grads in temporary positions so that they don't have to pay a fare wage and benefits. HR is condescending, rude and obsessed with control. Senior staff is not interested in listening, learning and working to be better. The amount of bullying, misogyny and racism I witnessed was unbelievable. Poor behavior is never addressed and there is never any resolution when conflict occurs. Concrete feedback on ways to make progress are "heard" but never acted on. There is a complete denial that the pandemic is still happening and that it affects people's daily lives. The official stance is that remote work is NOT available for staff, however certain departments still have people secretly working at home a few days a week. Long story short, you will not be valued at this institution. While things seem to be shiny and bright from the outside what lies beneath is an institution with no interest in transparency or progress and a soul damaging commitment to protecting the status quo.

Pros

Kind work environment that allows you to complete plenty of school work or studying during your shift. Employee discount is also always nice! Plenty of shifts available for pickup.

Cons

Low amount of scheduled hours, but again, you can always pick up shifts!
