Pros

Artists are idealistic, energetic, and talented. Many who have left the company have been hugely successful elsewhere. Building is spacious and hip, and neighborhood has some of the best character in Dallas. Good, safe parking comes in handy for after-hours pub crawling.

Cons

Artists are expendable. Very common for staffers to simply vanish overnight, with no explanation given. Project budgets are entirely about underbidding India and Taiwan. They will not be undersold, and deliver beautiful results thanks to permanent crunch times from lower levels. Favoritism is rife. A few get cars and fridges of Red Bull, many get broken chairs and hand-me-down computers. Work-life balance is great for upper management and those they favor, and severely broken for the rank-and-file. Studio is a means for the owners and their friends to play Hollywood. Middle management comprised largely of former artists who don't like managing but do like the perks. Pipeline and production tools based entirely on the whims of a couple of favored techs who prefer job security to efficiency.

Pros

Reel FX offers a range of roles from getting your foot in the door to the industry to working with directors creating feature film animations. While I was there, everyone I worked with were the most wonderful and talented people I’ve ever met.

Cons

I don’t contribute this to Reel FX, but the industry as a whole is pretty volatile

Pros

People are mostly nice and welcoming. Some truly talented artists to learn from. It's a good place to gain some experience

Cons

The company as a whole seems to lack a clear direction and focus
