Pros

Texas has a low cost of living, so it is easier to buy a house here than in L.A. or New York. The rank and file are genuinely enthusiastic about movies, animation, their work, etc.

Cons

No overtime, no comp time, very little compensation for the overly frequent crunch times. Projects are grossly underbid in order to land them, and then managed by production management teams that admit they don't know much about the work being done. The company will lie to clients when they cannot deliver on their promises, leaving workers feeling slimy. Senior management are standoff-ish at best, aloof and rude more often. Company sells itself as a family-friendly studio where you get ownership, except that you never get to see your family with the long hours and they stopped offering stock options years ago.

Pros

Reel FX offers a range of roles from getting your foot in the door to the industry to working with directors creating feature film animations. While I was there, everyone I worked with were the most wonderful and talented people I’ve ever met.

Cons

I don’t contribute this to Reel FX, but the industry as a whole is pretty volatile

Pros

People are mostly nice and welcoming. Some truly talented artists to learn from. It's a good place to gain some experience

Cons

The company as a whole seems to lack a clear direction and focus
