Pros

- Very flexible with work-life balance - Unlimited DTO is nice if you take advantage - Some teams have very clear sprint processes and working agreements - Some repos are very well maintained and clearly documented - There are friendly and talented individual contributors throughout the company - Some managers are incredibly inspiring and are genuinely interested in helping grow your career

Cons

- On-call and sprint burden is a nightmare regardless of team - Many teams do not have clear sprint processes and working agreements - Many repos are poorly maintained and not documented at all - Some managers are too hands off, and are too unknowledgeable, or even unwilling, to assist with blockers - Promotion feels like it entirely depends on your team and manager situation - (minor) Return to office policy was incredibly pointless, and nonsensical

Pros

Free Lunch on Wednesdays Solid Benefits Good pay for new hires

Cons

The flexible work week doesn't actually exist. It's an excuse to require some employees to work more than the 40 hour work week. Chicago employees are required to go into the office at least 2 days a week, even if rest of the team is remote. My specific team is without clear direction or leadership. Performative corporate jargon is rewarded over meaningful contributions. Existing employees are paid significantly less than new hires. At least on my team, there have been differences of $20 to $30K in annual salary for the same level.
