The company culture in 2024 is very different from the company culture in 2020. - Anonymous employee Relias Employee Review

Pros

The benefits package (health insurance, unlimited PTO, 401K matching up to 6%, parental leave, etc.) was one of the things that initially drew me to Relias. The individual contributors and managers were what made me stay. The people who work for Relias care about the mission, making a positive impact, and working together to get things done. This is evident through the multiple employee-run resource groups catering to different demographics and the Relias Recognition system (where employees can send virtual points to one another for jobs well done, which can later be cashed out for items or gift cards). Relias offers occasional outings, which provide great networking opportunities between departments and gives employees a chance to step away from their computers for a few hours. The outings are communicated via weekly emails to all Relians and also include helpful information like upcoming corporate holidays and open roles within the company. The biggest pro is the 321 coffee shop staff. I can't say enough great things about them. They have other locations outside of Relias HQ that you should check out. It's such a great company with great people working for them.

Cons

Your experience at Relias will depend on your manager. I was lucky to have great managers across my roles, but there were IC's in other teams whose work was negatively impacted due to lack of support from their managers. This was evident to outside team and department members working closely with them. The most recent round of layoffs had better communication from C-suite compared to the first two (one around 2023 Q4 and another around 2024 Q1), but was still not as comprehensive as it could have been. This is an instance where having a knowledgeable manager would have benefited you, as they could answer any questions you had about who/what was impacted by the layoffs. Ongoing layoffs have negatively impacted ongoing work, as those laid off were key players across departments (VP's, managers, and strong IC's) with little to no notice to pass off knowledge to remaining team members. There is a lack of accountability across multiple teams and departments. Goals and timelines are seen more as flexible suggestions rather than hard commitments, and makes reaching company projections difficult to accomplish. Slowly phasing out soft benefits over the past three years has negatively impacted company culture. Annual merit-based raises (now COLA around 2%) are an obvious callout, but smaller benefits like the annual spring festival, holiday gifts from corporate, bringing spouses to the annual holiday party, and eliminating the book club (which provided free books by Penguin Random House, Relias's sister company) also negatively impact morale. While those smaller benefits do cost money and sometimes the company needs to cut costs somewhere, those cuts (along with eliminating merit-based raises and multiple rounds of layoffs) come at the cost of lowering employee satisfaction.

Pros

Amazing corporate culture Leadership listened to engineering on tools, technology stack, etc Actual product ownership, including necessary input and control (instead of being told you own a product and then not given the necessary access or tools to maintain it)

Cons

Hiring process involved psychological screening with a lot of implicit bias, almost like an IQ test. On the plus side, I've been told they discontinued its use after that was pointed out.

Pros

You have kind co-workers and good benefits.

Cons

The strategic direction is unclear for many parts of the business. There is not enough transparency around hiring decisions - including who is still with the company and where there are opportunities for growth.
