I was laid off due to COVID-19, and the entire process was a TERRIBLE experience! I am genuinely shocked at how poorly this was conducted. The company chose to eliminate a number of employees (over 100) prior to taking the CARES Act money - this act provided financial relief for companies to cover payroll and prevented employers from laying off employees until Sept. 30th. So basically, Republic cheated that system. AND they did not pick from the most recent hires even within departments where people were terminated. They terminated people with years of experience and of loyalty - I can only assume that was because those people made more money? They kept people who had been with the company for less than 3-6 months. On top of the sting of being terminated, they made us return our monitors in person (if we took them home) but wouldn't let us clean out our own desks. My belongings (and the belongings of other colleagues who were terminated) were returned in pieces - glass broken everywhere. After receiving an above average performance evaluation a month prior to being terminated, this was a really awful experience that ruined the memories and nostalgia I associated with my experience at Republic Airways.
