Pros

Lots of acute care experience no matter what unit you work on. Unionized: legal protection against the hospital if they breach the contract they signed, negotiated pay raises for all staff RNs, etc.

Cons

Always floating our patient care techs & RNs to other units when we need them. Vital signs machines malfunctioning, not enough supplies at times especially for ostomy/colostomy patients. Taking care of patients that should be on a different unit. Doctors on the same care team not communicating well with each other & put the RN in the middle instead. Patient care or testing getting changed or altered & not informing the RN.

Fulfilling job treating some of the sickest patients in the city, fantastic coworkers, great department leadership/management, state-of-the-art/brand new x-ray equipment, complicated/interesting cases with extremely intelligent doctors

Cons

Work-Life balance, corporate hospital = poor upper-level management/C-suite leadership, lower hourly pay compared to all other area hospitals
