Great pay but horrible hours - Concierge Ritz-Carlton Employee Review

Pros

The pay was good but not good enough for the amount of work + stress they put you through & the amount of time you will not have to spend it.

Cons

The hours are horrible due to short staffing. Schedules could look like up to 14 days straight working and 1-2 days off in between. Rarely requests for days off are accepted even its a major event (I saw someone get turned down for a request they made 4 months in advance for their wedding anniversary). Workers needs were never a priority as the only thing that mattered here is making guests paying thousands happy while workers were subjected to high temperatures, unhealthy working conditions, extremely rude guests (who are always right and you are always wrong) and literal RATS under the guise that the hotel “couldn’t afford” to fix these little things that would actually make work life slightly easier in such an intense environment despite being a company that brags about their career life from day one of orientation and how “lucky” you are to be there. My location had a lot of workers on J1 visas and it seems as though they were being taken advantage of by management & business / scheduling practices that felt almost criminal due to them not being able to pick up and leave whenever they felt like they were being mistreated.

Strong emphasis on customer service excellence and professionalism. Excellent training and development programs. Opportunity to work with a respected luxury hospitality brand. Supportive team environment focused on guest satisfaction. Exposure to a diverse clientele from around the world. Clear service standards and expectations. Valuable experience in communication, problem-solving, and multitasking. Opportunities for internal advancement within hospitality and customer service roles. Employee recognition programs that celebrate outstanding service. Pride in representing a company known for high standards and exceptional guest experiences.

Cons

Fast-paced environment that can be stressful during peak seasons. High expectations for service and attention to detail. Heavy call volume during busy periods. Schedules may include evenings, weekends, and holidays. Staffing shortages can occasionally increase workload. Limited flexibility in procedures due to luxury brand standards. Advancement opportunities may vary by location, not department. Balancing multiple guest requests at once can be challenging.

Pros

Support from leadership and corporate. Encouraged to do whatever needed to problem solve, which was appreciated.

Cons

After Covid, management became slightly disorganized and not as friendly, or helpful as before.
