Pros

The University has a great medical insurance plan, with he choice of two options: The Rockefeller University Choice Plan or The Rockefeller University Managed Care Plan. The University has great center that provides developmentally appropriate early childhood education for the youngest members of the Rockefeller community, beginning at age 3 months. The teachers at the center patient, caring, and personable. As a full-time employee, if you're attending school in your field of study, the University will reimburse 85% of the total tuition charges, registration, books, and necessary supplies.

Cons

As a teacher at the center you will not get the support needed from administration. As a teacher at the center you'll start to feel undervalued but what teacher doesn't feel undervalued. The philosophy and culture has changed. As a result, if you have an opinion or thoughts on how things can change it will be ignored.

Pros

Top notch science and people. Labs are well funded. Best salary and benefits you'll ever find as a PhD student (salary/housing, fitness classes, etc). Nice campus, a little oasis in NYC. Lots of independence. A small and friendly community. Culture of work-life balance in many labs.

Cons

Some perks have been cut recently. Lack of name recognition outside biology compared to comparable research institutions like Harvard, Columbia (biologists all know RU is on the same level, but non-biologists don't). We only do biology so there's not as much access to compsci, math, etc.
