Pros
Excellent sales culture and training. Was much better in the early to mid 2010's and fell off quite a bit after the company went public. Still very strong sales training and builds excellent sales muscle/habits. Brand familiarity in the marketplace is a huge plus over competing lenders. Relatively receptevive to employee feedback and willing to implement employee suggested changes. Above average benefits pacakge Corporate guideposts (aka ISMs) are very good business rules to live by, generally speaking.
Cons
You are not paid overtime. You are expected to work well over 40 hours per week, but you are not paid 1.5x for overtime, you are paid 0.5x. They justify this due to it being a highly commission based role. If bankers made consistent commission this would make sense. See below. Ever-changing goalposts for compensation. Very difficult to plan/budget your life around wildy shifting goals that move at random times. The business is structured so that the majority of bankers are in a constant cycle of mountains/valleys when it comes to their paychecks from month to month to month. Very much a strong sense of "your job is your life". Lack of flexibility and autonomy. Nearly impossible to have a family life, personal life, or any hobbies. They do not compensate bankers for cell phone or internet even though bankers are directed to constantly use their personal cell phone for business and use their internet at home. Either give me a seperate work phone or pay my bill like every other respectable sales organization in the known universe. Heavy heavy pressure to work long hours including many weekend hours both Saturdays and Sundays. Lots of guilt-tripping and emotional abuse in regard to wanting to have a personal life including but no limited to hobbies and/or family. Very hesitant to allow mortgage bankers to transfer to other areas of the company. Want to keep bankers in banking at all costs. Subpar tech stack. Clinging to out-dated legacy systems and when using newer systems, only using home-grown systems that are glitchy and cumbersome. You will always be the highest priced loan when a client does even a minimal amount of due-diligence shopping. Severe push-back from management when a discount is needed even though EVERYONE ON THE PLANET knows Rocket is the most expensive lender on the market.
