Pros

Some of the buyers are great to work with. They allow you to purchase a third week off for vacation time.

Cons

Pay is very lousy. The work is repetitive but at the same time hectic, because they're always asking you to switch tasks. If you come in as a temp at the end of the year and are switched to permanent OPC, don't expect to be able to get a better position for over a year and a half. Probably minimum. That in itself would be okay if you weren't doing AB1 (assistant buyer) work from day one for the terrible pay. Buyers seem to always be behind and be late for everything, at least in the clothing department. I do not think that this is their fault. Higher up management does not want them to hire more help that they so clearly need. So senior ABs and AB2s are always swamped.

Pros

All of my coworkers were wonderful. No high school drama. Boss was flexible and understanding, although he always liked it if you said you could work more hours. The employee discount is pretty awesome. The work wasn't bad and rude customers were rare.

Cons

There was pressure to come in even when you were sick. Pay wasn't the greatest; it usually stayed ahead of minimum wage, but by no means kept up with inflation. Visits from corporate often meant a new change in procedures that had been working and demands that were somewhat unreasonable given the constraints of the layout or number of employees available.
