Pros
20% employee discount. I was the accessories girl. Got to interact with customers learn some interesting things about jewelry. Got to put things on hold for myself.
Cons
I was the accessories girl, which means jewelry, perfume, handbags, shoes, toiletries, hosiery. Formally done by two people, and also a reserve cashier. It was my first job, and at first I thought I had it made. The Accessories Girl, sounded awesome! I soon realized it wasn't at all that glamorous. A day consisted of me running from one area to another, and then some 10 more times and oh, we need a cashier..... sigh. I loved jewelry and perfume, (I'de like to think, I developed some sales techniques, always got a sale). I was told by management that I was being too nice, and needed to ignore customers attempts for interaction. But I guess I understand, Ross is the hustle and bustle kind of store. Some customers treat you like you're dirt which was a little difficult for me to handle, but I guess That's Retail. As everyone kept reminding me. I'm sure I don't have to describe what Ross looks like, and on top of that I was the closing shift. So at the end of every shift I would have to pick every shoe, point them out, by size. Pick up socks. Reorganize my handbags. And attempt go backs. I never really got to them, just too much, really. My fellow employees mastered the art of finishing early, look around the store, play with the merchandise, come to my section and check out the shoes while I was on the floor picking them up. But the real art was in waiting so that they could Clock out the latest possible. Obviously. Mo' Monnies! There were FEW fellow associates that actually put their all in the work. Number one that stood out was the girl that did Home, she was like a superhero. She was foreign, so I'm assuming she did it to gain the same respect as the rest. She was finally picked up for Full time by the time I was leaving. Which meant benefits, and I think a dollar more, from minimum. Unfortunately I lasted less than a month. I left with my spirit broken. I think this job is a job, not real potential to grow into a career, at least worth to me. You would have to be there for years, from what I saw, working your butt off.
