Drain tech - Drain Technician Roto-Rooter Plumbing & Water Cleanup Employee Review

Pros

The work hours are flexible. While the schedule is set for an eight-hour day, in reality, if you complete two jobs and it’s a slow day, you can usually relax without any pressure. The company overall is solid — leadership is strong and supportive. The pay is very good when business is busy.

Cons

The work can feel a bit seasonal — almost like working at UPS. There are times when it’s extremely busy (for example, from the end of summer through about March or April), but during the summer months, it can slow down significantly. Some weeks you might go several days without getting a job, and the lack of steady work during these periods can make it hard to cover your monthly bills. Another downside is that as a drain tech, you’re required to provide your own vehicle — the company does not supply one until you become a licensed plumber. This adds an extra vehicle payment and associated costs to your personal expenses.

Pros

Dispatch from home Reimbursed for mileage

Cons

Slow, and you are reliant on the quality of leads in which dispatch sends you. At the end of my experience, had only had anyone from 1-3 leads in my entire twelve hour shift. Meanwhile, you will be held accountable to unreasistic expectations - even when it is slow (lack of empathy and understanding from leadership).
