Pros

Royal is a great organization to begin your EMS career. They operate in two of the busiest counties and are genuine about providing a good experience. The hire some of the best people I have worked with...and they go above and beyond to make sure that you have everything you need. Yes the pay isn't the greatest, but that is standard for trying to get into EMS. I'm sure many of the people aren't doing it for the pay, but for an opportunity to have some experience. On top of it, they do everything else to make up for it. I know I had the choice of going to other BLS companies who all had the same or similar pay, but chose Royal because of all the other benefits they have. Also, I know that many other providers like to take their employees over other organizations. They have a week long academy and I was with my FTO for about 12 shifts...which is higher than other BLS organizations. They also have VST's who wash and stock your vehicles so they are always clean and ready to go. They also try their hardest to be open and transparent. They have things where you can submit online suggestions which they address via email or via their newsletter. They have a lot of events that people go to. I have been to a few and they are pretty cool. I also like that they are always there and available. There are some people who are burnt out, but obviously its like the title says, you get out what you put in... I have had a good experience, and so has other people in our county. We also just got tablets which is pretty cool! Just some bad seeds that aren't familiar with ems..its a certification not a license...There are also tons of room for growth if you want it. I personally like to be on an ambulance, but like anything, if you want it, its there.

Cons

I wish there was more matching on the 401k. Sometimes it takes longer to get rid of people who are corrosive to our environment and culture, but they usually leave on their own after awhile. I would like more educational opportunities, which can be tricky with a lot of people.

Pros

Good way to get basic EMT experience. Able to expand on that doing CCT or ALS transfers with medics and nurses. Good place to start a career in EMS or healthcare if you use it as a platform to jump from. The good news is they embrace this.

Cons

Basic IFT transports. Usually nothing too crazy can let your skills go soft.
