Pros
- Friendly coworkers and management who genuinely want you to succeed and stay with RT as long as possible. The environment is encouraging and only competitive in that people want to do the best possible, but it's very teamwork-oriented and your peers are eager to help you find your strengths and work together on your weaknesses. - A great job for a recent grad or someone earlier in their career who maybe hasn't yet worked in a formal office setting. It's specialized enough that you're using the professional skills you've already developed, but still accessible enough that a variety of different backgrounds can succeed here. - Great benefits, pay, and opportunity to grow. As someone who is generally skeptical about companies treating their employees well, I'm really surprised (and pleased!) by how much RT values their employees. There's a company-wide encouragement of healthy work-life balance that I love, and I feel like management is really understanding of your personal time and appreciative of hard work. While I'm still new, already my supervisor has been really kind and happy to welcome me to the team. There are social events and happy hours and it's easy to be friendly with your coworkers here, but I wouldn't say it's one of those environments that pressures you into socializing with colleagues with daily happy hours and so on.
Cons
- Experience varies depending on your team I think, so it might be more difficult if you don't feel like a great match on that front. - I came in with very little knowledge of insurance and a really different kind of employment history, which made adjusting more difficult than maybe someone who is more familiar with the insurance landscape. I think it's important when starting out to be clear and honest about the things you do and don't understand so everyone's expectations can be met and you don't feel crushed by too heavy a workload. Everyone has been really patient and encouraging so far, which has made the transition a lot easier. - I did come on board during a weird transition time--right after Labor Day and as the Chicago office is about to move locations--which has been a little weird and has resulted in a few small onboarding mix-ups. Fortunately, everyone has been really quick to resolve any errors and has made it clear that things are usually a little smoother.
