Pros
RT has some very strong teams and leadership in certain offices/locations. There are good development/training programs conducted a corporate level. The RT name is very well respected in the industry and the company is part of many professional organizations. I would also say the operations team at RT is one of the best I have worked under, they have managed to streamline many processes that allow teams to focus on the deal making aspect of the business. They recently hired a D&I director and implemented D&I training , and as a person of color, I believe that they are *trying* to improve on their diversity and inclusion. The medical benefits are some of the best offered.
Cons
Paid time off is pretty low for the industry, and there is no separation of vacation time / sick pay. While I do think RT is taking steps in the right direction to improve the diversity and inclusion within the company, they are still pretty behind the times. Even in major cities with diverse populations, the RT teams and offices are lacking in diversity within. There is little to no diversity at the corporate leadership levels. The HR department at RT is one of the most inept and biased that I have worked under. From my experience, managers are not required to sit down with employees and explain job expectations, set goals, or other measures that are typical of any company. If you have a poor manager/team, you will be on your own and have to fend for yourself and defend yourself and your job. During my time at RT, I was in several situations where I was present at work events where RT employees, including some in upper management, made racist and sexist remarks. One of the remarks was so racist and inappropriate that I excused myself from the event and went home feeling so distraught. I felt as though I could not go to HR for help as they routinely take the word of a manager over an employee, especially if the employee is a person of color. If your manager has a problem with you or your performance, they may be quick to put you on a performance improvement plan instead of sitting down with you and discussing issues before taking it to that level. As some other reviewers have mentioned, there seems to be a pattern of employees being placed on a performance improvement plan with little to no investigation from HR. Overall, I would say if you are coming into RT and know the manager/team that you will be working under well, RT may be a good fit for you. But if you are coming in and working with a team you have no history and experience with, I would just advise you be cautious and know that HR may be of little to no help if needed.
