Pros

Overall great team and the company does great work for it's customers. Company has a great reputation. Great first job for transitioning military personnel and skilled professions.

Cons

All employees are at the mercy of their contract. Company will almost never work at risk and will not carry over employees in between contracts. I witnessed many long-term employees who had over ten0plus years of service with the company, let go by when their contract expired. Company used to have a more competitive job benefits package but significantly scaled these back. The ability for an employee to get tuition assistance, even for skill sets directly related to the contract and the customer's task, is completely dependent on what Business Unit the employee is in. Bottom line, even though the company advertises tuition assistance as a benefit, it is almost always non-available due to the profitability of the Business Unit. The low value that the company has towards employee investment was highlighted by the current CEO completely eliminating tuition assistance from the company shortly after he assumed leadership. CEO stated that employees wanted certifications rather than college tuition benefits. A few months later, the company backtracked on this policy after receiving significant employee feedback on this. Almost zero professional development by leadership with it's employees. I had joined the company based on it's solid reputation, with the goal of making a career with the company. Ultimately, the lack of company investment into employees along with the lack of contract stability are why I left the company.

Pros

Decent learning and development opportunities. Some really passionate and hard working people on your teams. Performance management is relaxed and flexible.

Cons

Benefits are wildly expensive for a company of their size. Was laid off with 1.5 months notice right before Christmas. Months prior to layoff was forced to use my PTO due to gov shutdown, but was still getting my full paycheck during shutdown. I believe this was so that they could diminish our PTO banks so they would have to pay out less when they laid us off. Laid off with zero severance despite being at company for almost 4 years and being in good standing. No efforts from management to make connections for a new internal role despite being strongly encouraged to search internally. New CEO Jim is not personable at all. Gives heavy corporate and cog in a machine vibes. Rumor has it that in the defense contracting industry, SAIC will be faring rather poorly within next 1-4 years.
