Pros

I don't often leave reviews, but feel compelled to talk about SCAN. Bear with me, because this will be long. I can't say that too often in my professional history that I've felt proud of the company I worked for, but I must say I take so much pride in working at SCAN. It's a company with an admirable mission that truly cares about it's members and employees - sorry, rebels - in not only word, but in action. This all stems from the incredibly inspirational leadership displayed by Sachin. His leadership resonates with values I hold personally and professionally, and it's just very refreshing to witness someone in his position lead and act with integrity, transparency, sincerity, and a desire to place the well-being of those in his charge (members and rebels alike) at the center of many if not all decisions he makes for SCAN. Because of this leadership, I've seen SCAN transform for the better into a company that is self-reflective, innovative, and tenacious. It's creating a culture of not just nice people, but kind people who are learning to engage in healthy conflict, use their voices to speak out against abnormal behavior and processes (we sued CMS....and won!), and celebrate wins without resting on our laurels. All of these things are developing in a more tangible way at SCAN and it's great to be in the midst of all of the transformation of our company culture and ways of working that we're undergoing. If you're looking for a place that is investing in people, committed to diversity of people and ideas, aims to center the voices of it's employees, has approachable leaders at all levels of leadership, and is self-aware about what it does well and what it doesn't, then SCAN may be the place for you. If you're looking for opportunities to grow and do meaningful work, SCAN may be the place for you. But know that you'll have to work hard and live out it's mission and values in deed, not just word. So if you're good with that, SCAN is a great place to work for you! Literally. We've won that award a few times.

Cons

In the spirit of transparency I mentioned in the pros, I will say that as great as our overall company culture is, the type of leadership displayed at executive levels doesn't often trickle down to all levels of leadership, and it can create a bit of a dual experience at SCAN that can leave one frustrated at times. It's something that is actively being worked on, something our CEO acknowledges and is committed to changing through all of the transformation SCAN has experienced in the last 3 months alone, so I am hopeful this con will be less impactful over the next few years. SCAN being an arguably smaller business for so long and now emerging as a major competitor in the MA market, there is also a lot of catch up we're playing when it comes to technology. There are still many antiquated, manual processes and tools that impede efficiency that can be a hindrance and time suck at times. Again, it's something that is actively being worked on, and in the last 2 years or so, we've made great strides in this regard.

Pros

1. Benefits - pto, holidays, $14/mo for individual insurance 2. Coworkers appear that they always are willing to help 3. The mission and non-profit side

Cons

1. They will string you along if you are a temp and keep saying they will hire you, then fire you. Temps are treated as easily resplaceable and you will be fired with no notice 2. Tons of layoffs of whole or partial departments being outsourced to overseas 3. Loved scan before current CEO. Sorry, but he is asking way too much for the pay 4. Questions to direct manager and other departments have to be submitted through a tracker system 5. Tracking metric system is unrealistic with my job, yet still forced upon us. They reworked the performance goals and it’s impossible to get overachieves now = less of a raise. The raise is hardly 3% most years 6. They are now transitioning back to office at least 3 days a week, making it mandatory if you live within 50 miles, yet hire many out of state workers 7. Hard to get clear guidance - takes a while for managers to respond; outdated job aids 8. Constant turn over with unclear guidance on who to direct questions to. Managers in my department don’t last over two years. 9. Pushing new technology before it’s ready and having AI being forced upon us when our department has no use for it yet.
