Pros

Health plans are relatively cheap, but of no quality.

Cons

I was a nurse here for 5 years, until the new owner implemented a "daily check-in" system that involved brutal scrutiny of every minor task. As the head nurse, I suggested that is is brutal to health workers. Yet they just told me that my opinion is not valued under their new leadership. We need to hit numbers, even if it costs the quality of healthcare. For instance, the cheaper gauze and medical tapes were used for patients who are easily broken. I brought up concerns that were unacceptable to medical and ethical standards. My attitude was met with a rude dismissal, and I got fired. It felt like deliberate attempt to stifle my professionalism! I was saddened that I needed to leave like this! To anyone who wishes for a nursing career, this place is not advisable!

We regret hearing about your negative experience as this does not reflect the standards, values, or culture we uphold across the organization at SCAN. Feedback from our care teams is critical to our mission of keeping seniors healthy and independent and delivering high-quality, person-centered care. As a not-for-profit, we are able to prioritize people over profits and hold ourselves to high clinical standards by facilitating a work culture that allows all team members to feel respected, heard, and supported. We take any and all concerns seriously and our leadership team works hard to ensure that employees can trust those concerns will be addressed appropriately. As you are no longer with SCAN, we appreciate the work you did on behalf of our members and wish you the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

• I learned to have empathy for our clients. • I acquired leadership skills too. • Proper balance of independence and support • on the job • Guidance from the higher-ups • Policies are updated regularly to be more in tune with employees’ needs. • 4-day workweek (I get Mondays and Tuesdays off.) • Fair salary and perks like hybrid setup, tuition reimbursement, and wellness benefits.

Cons

It’s stressful to handle grievances and appeals. You must have the stamina if you want this kind of job.

Pros

The location is decent enough, and the commute did not make things worse than they already were.

Cons

- There is a very clear in group culture in the office, and if you are not included from day one, you are immediately at a disadvantage. - People stick to the same lunch groups every day with the same conversations, and if you are outside of that circle, you are simply left observing. - Getting basic work answers can become unnecessarily difficult because information tends to circulate only within informal groups that are never openly shared. - Effort and performance do not seem to matter much compared to social placement within the office hierarchy, which appears to be decided almost immediately during onboarding. - Management acts as if none of this exists, even though it is felt constantly by anyone outside those circles.
