I can only speak for the lab, but the people who run the lab are uneducated in science and management techniques (no degrees and limited formal training). This creates a frustrating environment for anyone with an education. At times, you will have to fight for basic scientific principles, such as measuring at the meniscus. If you can handle misinformed, sometimes toxic managers, the lab can be helpful to get experience, especially if you are a new college grad.
