Pros
The mission is the big plus! One can contribute to, at the very least, slow down some of the damage that we have been doing to Earth and ourselves, by contributing to areas such as forestry management or food testing. This type of work can have a big positive impact on the world around us.
Cons
Unfortunately, this is undermined by poor senior management in some departments of the company. This was reflected by poor scoping of projects and lack of resources in the department. As the company got more and more new projects to work on (we should have been a good thing!), these projects have been scoped in a way that it made it a terrible experience to work on, accumulating overtime (one colleague worked over 2 times the normal number of hours for one pay period!) to provide for the very short deadline (what should have been calculated in a matter of months had been shortened to a matter of weeks) and frustation by not being able to properly architecture the project and being forced to use the quick and dirty way to make things work as soon as possible. These issues could have also been partially alleviated by allocating greater resources for the departments. Practically, each engineer had to bed held responsible for at least one full project, and sometime many, where in other companies, projects of a similar size see many people working on them. The main issue was the constant change in direction and decisions of senior management, and wastes that it creates. Many time projects have been changed or even cancelled after one or a few people spent days working on it. This frustration was exacerbated by micro-managing, which was perceived as a lack of trust from senior management to their work force.
