Pros

In a recession it pays well. For someone who is young and unattached its a great experience because you get to travel all over and are well taken care of in terms of hotel/car/flights/pay however i wouldn't recommend it if you have a family. You also get most holidays off - if your allowed to take them.

Cons

you are always on edge and scared to lose your job. You are exploited and over worked and people are immediatly fired for questioning anything. The staff union is weak because as a union itself, SEIU knows all the best union-busting and weakening tactics and implements them any time anyone stands up for a day off. Everything is an emergency which means that most time off is forbidden. no work life balance and expect your leads to be staying the the same hotel as you which means they are omni present - even when you are not at work. If you get snowed in - be prepared for training in the hotel meeting room. Also they dont tell you this untill after your hired but the OIT position is only one year long and if you dont get a job at a local you are let go. UUR (the staff union) said that aprox 50-75% of employees are let go before the year ends or do not recieve job offers at the end of the year - basically creating a revolving door of temp employees that they don't have to offer any job security to. Theres a bunch of back info on this why this is but thats a long story.
