Pros
- Meet and speak with incredibly intelligent people about fascinating people doing exciting work. - Stable work environment. There will be work for you for years to come that is steady. - Hard working and friendly labor force that really knows their job. -
Cons
- Siloed IT organization and a dated mentality of how modern IT should function. - No accountability. Everything is someone else's job and most people will do all they can not to have to fulfill their responsibilities. - The user base is mostly unfriendly. With plenty that is outright hostile to people trying to help them. - The organization fosters an environment of mistrust and poor management and has been mismanaged for at least a decade, if not more. - Management and staff are both incredibly adverse to change, even when it means there's an immediate improvement. - poor foresight from IT and upper-level management that makes drastic improvements at an acceptable pace impossible. - Pushback against small changes that would improve the lives of science and staff members. - A culture of complaining guarantees you're going to be focused on putting out fires, not on actual priorities that affect the environment as a whole.
