Pros
SLAC has some of the smartest people around and the science accomplished is truly world class. In general, people are focused on collaboration. Being a Stanford employee the benefits are good. There is also a reasonable balance between work and the rest of your life.
Cons
Resources are always constrained and this often brings out both the best and worst in people. Intra department fighting over resources can be vicious. Empire building at the expense of others happens. Layoffs every other year are just par for the course.
