Pros
The only company (in a very long time) which give pay raises that matched (or exceeded) the rate of inflation. It sounds simple, but no other employer seems to do that anymore. As a result, the longer you stay with a given employer the further behind you get. The total cost of living never goes down so, if your income remains the same you fall further and further behind every year. Because Smartronix gave me raises every year my standard of living never went down. It sounds simple but it makes a big difference.
Cons
As a policy, Smartronix does not subcontract out its employees. As a result, if they ever do lose a re-compete, the employees on the contract they have lost are let go. I understand that this has become pretty standard practice with most government contractors but that does not change the fact that employees who want to remain with Smartronix are let go due to factors which are out of their control.
