Pros

They offer an innovative program for people who have special needs in a community center environment where members can engage in a variety of leisure activities such as music, movies, art, cooking, computers and gym activities. Additionally, the intent of the program is to integrate the center with the community so that non-disabled members can participate in activities alongside their neighbors with special needs.

Cons

The administration is extraordinarily top-heavy. Most of those in upper administration/executive positions began in direct care positions 35 years ago and have worked their way up. The problem with this is that practically everyone who stuck it out became a "Vice President." Additionally, for many of them this was their first work experience and they therefore have had no other exposure to management styles, nor had education in management. As a group they are very clanish and do not allow outsiders into their clique. As a group they use a management style that was popular in the 1970s. which suggests that constant change keeps emplyees off-balance and they are therefore less inclined to complain. At least every 6 months people are moved around to different offices and/or buildings. Programs are revamped so that the direct care employees are also kept in a constant state of change. It is a very unnerving way to manage and eventually results in frustration among employees below the upper echelon and they end up losing a LOT of really good employees.

Pros

It was an amazing experience at first.I thought Spin was a great fit and a chance to expand my career is ECE field.I really felt like I belonged at SPIN and everything was great. I received a promotion and I was doing great working with the kids in Early Intervention.

Cons

Management and certain teachers are rude and demeaning. A special needs teacher told me that I had ADHD and that I should go home and google it. The day that I was suspended my manager told me to stop texting certain people so I did. I was not given any warning before suspension then I was fired.Apparently it’s okay to bully co-workers about their disabilities. Management only cares about certain people who have degrees. I was mistreated and wrongfully terminated.Spin helps a lot of people with disabilities and the impact that this organization has on people’s lives is amazing. When I was in Elementary and High school I struggled with a learning disability. I can understand what some of this children are going through and I really connect with the children in early intervention. I am deeply disappointed and feel extremely betrayed by SPIN.
