Pros

They pay certain positions well. Don't let the money suck you in. I felt like I had golden handcuffs on while employed at SRF.

Cons

As said in my headline, if you have any creativity you want to bring to the table, a voice to enhance a process, or drive change, walk away. This is not the organization for you. Any position within corporate services will be extremely limiting, toxic, and suffocating. Within accounting, admin services, and marketing, there has been a complete turnover of ALL groups within the last five years. Leadership has a significant play in this, and no one wants to confront the issues; they enable it. SRF is the only organization I have worked for where I have heard of multiple HR complaints against a leadership team member. That person is still there, actively ruining the culture.

SRF Consulting Group Response

We strive to promote creativity in the workplace. It is unfortunate that wasn’t your experience. We also value all team members, including our Corporate Services employee owners. Establishing and maintaining a respectful workplace environment is essential. It’s disappointing to learn you did not feel that appreciation while you worked at SRF. Part of our employment engagement includes surveys specifically seeking employee feedback. We also work collaboratively 1:1 with our employees in establishing annual goals and evaluating them in our annual reviews) we have not experienced the turnover described in this review, we have certainly faced some team changes. The turnover at SRF is consistently lower than the average for our industry and location, however we still try to learn from each experience through exit interviews. We also often follow up with the team based on that exit interview advice to ensure we are understanding and incorporating feedback appropriately. Finally, we take HR complaints very seriously, regardless of the role of the people involved in a complaint. Any official HR complaint involves appropriate action, especially if there is any type of behavior pattern. – Todd Polum, CEO/President.

Pros

The workplace culture, at least in my group, is very supportive and collaborative. I've never felt like I'm in an intense competition with my colleagues, as work at some other consulting firms can feel like. The company also provides generally good benefits, including two health insurance plan options, 401k with matching, and an ESOP. The company also pays pretty well, and from what I've heard has managed to avoid cost-cutting layoffs entirely throughout its decades-long history, even during the most challenging economic times. This shows me the company is overall very fiscally responsible and values its people. There are also good opportunities for advancement within the company, and they tend to promote people fairly based on performance and individual readiness for higher positions.

Cons

Because it's a consulting firm, there is a lot of pressure to always be doing billable work and reach a certain utilization goal. That's the nature of a consulting job, but it does lead to stress that I have not experienced outside the consulting sector, particularly during periods of slow work. The company also generally does not offer as much paid time off as my public sector counterparts tend to receive. I get less vacation time, sick time, and holidays than I used to in the public sector. On the issue of holidays in particular, it always feels a little odd to be working on holidays that our clients (who are mostly public sector) have off and probably don't expect us to be working on either.
