I have witnessed hard working and smart employees over looked for career growth opportunities because they weren't chummy with the right people. As someone relatively new to the company compared to most employees, I see things a bit differently. There are people in important roles that shouldn't be. They aren't hard working, self-directed, or highly skilled. It's not a secret that they are being protected because of their personal relationships. I am lucky enough not to have this sort of nonsense effect my role, but seeing it effect my colleagues makes me question management.
