Pros

Most of the people I worked with directly were enjoyable, benefits are pretty average (they aren't terrible, but aren't that great either). Most of management will leave you alone most of the time to get your routine tasks done.

Cons

Pay is low compared to other comparable positions in the area and industry (I heard that pay is based on cost of living for HQ in Mentor Ohio). Employees are overworked and at the location I was at, many had to work weekend OT to help get caught up or because the customer approved weekend testing charges (management will literally bend over backwards to 'yes and' the customers). It is impossible to get increased headcount approved by corporate (unhappy employees working OT and still not on time for delivery isn't good enough justification apparently). Management does not provide the resources their direct reports need to succeed (partially because they are overworked themselves and can't keep up with all the issues that occur, related and not related to staffing problems). Little to no opportunity for any sort of development or growth; crosstraining was used during tour/interviews as one of the selling points for the position, however little effort is put into actually crosstraining employees, largely due to constant employee turnover and lack of support from management. Certain testing areas within the lab had placed PTO freezes around the time of Thanksgiving and Christmas because they were more worried about how customer testing would be impacted by people spending the holidays with their family than caring about their employees. Unfortunately I have more negative things to say than positive about my experience working there for nearly 3 years. I spent 3 years stuck in the same testing area after repeated promises over a year and shall span to make a lateral move to another testing area within the lab itself. After being patient and understanding for that time, I finally got frustrated enough that my development was suffering and pursued employment elsewhere.

Pros

Working at STERIS has been a rewarding experience, especially if you’re someone who isn’t afraid to put in the effort. One of the biggest advantages is that your earning potential is directly tied to the amount of work you put in. If you’re motivated, proactive, and willing to take on responsibility, you can truly earn great money here. The company gives you the opportunity to grow, learn, and take on more whenever you’re ready. It’s a place where hard work is recognized and often rewarded, making it a strong fit for people who enjoy being in control of their own success. If you’re driven and want a job where your hustle actually shows up in your paycheck, STERIS is a solid choice.

Cons

On the downside, the job can be challenging due to frequent product shortages, which makes it difficult to meet customer needs and hit goals especially when there’s little support from corporate to resolve these issues. Another major frustration is that when you take vacation, you're still working, because there’s no real backup to cover your territory. The role also requires a lot of travel, which can be demanding and exhausting over time. Lastly, promotions are few and far between, so career advancement can feel slow despite strong performance. Overall: STERIS can be a great place for someone who wants control over their earnings and doesn’t mind putting in significant effort. However, lack of support, constant travel, and limited growth opportunities may make it challenging for long‑term satisfaction.
