Pros
* This varies from store to store but, in my experience Safeway has a decent work culture and a individual store's core team is commonly solid, committed, has strong work ethic, and understanding to the various challenges placed on employees and dept. managers alike. A coworker of mine puts it best a well run and maintained store is only possible through the strength and efforts of the dept. managers without that foundation the store struggles. *Decent to good pay based on a management level only. *Great and fast growth opportunity, if your committed to work in that industry. *Overtime pay *OK Employee benefits *Great entry level to the workforce in general, learning the basics of jobs, whats to be expected, how to conduct your self properly at a job and learning that all companies have unique challenges each employee has to face at some point in their careers.
Cons
*Corporate team places very high to meet expectations and sales goals, which is the source of many employee and store management frustrations. *Starting wage is way under par (statistically among the lowest) compared to similar jobs in the grocery industry. *High workload and 40+ hour work weeks (Managers mostly) which is amplified during holidays making work life balance highly difficult. *Consistent labor shortage do to a lack of "competitive wages" and lack of a solution to this issue from the corporate team, which desire to maintain the status quo over creating actual opportunities for the workforce.
